Boston marathon 2009 - 9 seconds between 1st and 3rd place

Today’s women’s race in the Boston Marathon was incredible to watch. Kara Goucher, the first American finisher ran a race for the ages. She was disappointed to finish 3rd, because she wanted to win so badly. She was beaten by only 9 seconds! It doesn’t sound like much, but when you are racing 26.2 miles at just over 5 minutes per mile, pushing faster than you are is an enormous task. Kara made American marathoners proud again, after years of drought against the foreign runners. Your text to link here…

The lesson today is that in your own life, business, competitions, you don’t have to be tremendously better than your competition. Just a little better! The winner was 9 seconds better than Kara, but only ONE second faster than the second place finisher. What can you do to be just a little better than you are currently?

Maybe you could exercise for 15 minutes more per day, or read something a book about something positive or uplifting for 15 minutes, or listen to something inspiring that will get your motor going in the morning. You know where you waste time and areas you could improve. Give it a shot and see how much better you can be at what you do. Small shifts in habits can produce exponential returns from your activities. All the best to you! Neil Wood Consulting
