Despite the 24 hour daily gloom and doom on TV, there are always opportunities for those salespeople with passion, integrity, competitive drive, a positive attitude and willingness to do SOMETHING! These advisors are keeping very busy, asking for referrals, hosting client events to keep in touch with their clients and doing most things that the discouraged advisors are not willing to do. On my flight from Denver to Boston, when we hit such strong and violent turbulence that the plane bounced around and then dropped more feet than I care to relive. After the plane settled down, the pilot made an announcement. “We’ve hit some bumpy air due to an oncoming storm. We went to a higher altitude, and expect to get you to Boston on time, with a smoother flight too. Just in case, stay buckled in, sit back and relax. Your pilots have more than 50 years of combined flying years.”
The pilot did exactly what salespeople, sales managers and leaders are supposed to do and SHOULD be doing right now. He provided leadership, confidence and direction when we needed it badly! His words and confidence put us all at ease.
What are you doing to inspire, motivate and energize your team or your customers right now? Encourage them to step away from the TV’s negativity. It’s a terrible waste of time, zaps their energy and adds no value to their life. Encourage them to go for a walk, get some exercise, read positive articles or listen to something motivational on their iPod. By taking some action, they will improve their energy, attitude and productivity. Take the role of the pilot for people who are counting on you. That’s exactly what the advisors I met with last week are doing. They are reaching out to people who count on them for LEADERSHIP, CONFIDENCE AND DIRECTION! They are being proactive, not reactive!
Take action and make things happen! Everyone wins!
