We become what we think about most!

I’m listening to the great Earl Nightingale again and getting more energized for the last 4 months of 2009. His recording, The Strangest Secret was released in 1956 and continues to be a hit today. It’s even on YouTube! Earl would have loved seeing that, I’m sure!

His main message is that we are the power behind our success or failure, depending on the thoughts we fill our mind with. I thought about this during a recent business trip while enjoying a first class flight and beverage on Northwest airlines. Here we are on this beautiful and spacious 757, which has enormous power - and yet it’s all controlled by the main pilot. He has his flight plan, hands on the controls and can make this plane go as far as he wants, in any direction. Our MIND is very much the same. Our thoughts are OUR fuel and we are the pilot that determines our own flight plan. We may deviate from it slightly, but we are responsible for where we go and at what speed and attitude/altitude! What are YOUR thoughts these days? Are you excited about the future or bummed out about the recent past and the economy? One thing I learned from my friend Tom Kirk, who survived 5 torturous years as a POW in Viet Nam. We can’t change the past. Learn from it, the surge forward, because we are totally responsible for our life, success and future.

The past 15 months has been brutal for many people. I’ve been affected too, so I speak from experience. What keeps me inspired is knowing that every time our economy has been beaten up like this, the rebound is very sweet, enjoyable and rewarding. So, I’m acting like the professional boxer in my mind. I may get knocked on the canvas, but as long as I get up one more time, than I’ve been knocked down, I will survive and win.

This too shall pass. Use your thoughts as great jet fuel to get you to your next big exciting goal. Think of how fantastic you’ll feel when you reach this goal - then make progress every day and know that you CAN accomplish practically ANYTHING you put your mind to. Along the way, be sure to surround yourself with other positive people. They are inspiring! Let the moaners, groaners and complainers whine and moan on their own. Don’t give them 1 second of time. They’ll do all they can to drain your energy. Stay positive and hopeful!

Be sure to check out my videos on YouTube. These were taped on Optimist Island, just off the coast of Boston. Believe in yourself and make things happen!
