New Blog from Optimist Island

Most people who know me well, will tell you that the first two words that comes to their mind when my name is mentioned is positive attitude. The third word is optimism! It’s a great reputation to have in life!

Throughout my life since I was just a young teen, I have shared a positive attitude with those around me. Yes, there were a few pessimists whom I drove NUTS ~ but I don’t care much for pessimists anyway. I surround myself with fellow optimists and people who I describe as happy about life. They are “winners” with exciting goals, great ambition and tremendous discipline. I Always feel energized when I’m around them. (see below for more)

Low energy, high stress, limited time? Change habits and change your outlook!

This week I spoke with a friend who was feeling frazzled by the current economy. She has never worked so hard for such little money. The stress-levels are sky high, energy is low, morale is below sea level and my friend is really frustrated. I asked her what she was doing for exercise. “Neil, I just don’t have time or energy anymore.” That is a comment I hear often these days. Remember this. It doesn’t matter what is going on in your career, life or day. You control your attitude and your activity. Take responsibility and give yourself permission to get daily exercise! It will inspire you and raise yours self-esteem, energy and alertness. read more…

Walking across hot coals to overcome FEAR and get inspired

What a great night at the Sheraton hotel in Framingham! Last night I hosted our monthly Firewalk for 45 sales executives who wanted to be inspired while overcoming a great fear of being burned. Yes, the coals are 1200-2000 degrees as they are delivered from the bonfire, just seconds away from our walking path. 12 different countries were represented, from Russia to South America to USA, yet they all spoke the same language with their eyes when the Firewalk path was covered with burning hot coals. “We’re going to do what?”

Everyone crossed the 15 foot walk of hot coals, and the enthusiasm and cheers was enough to inspire anyone within earshot! I always find it interesting to begin a presentation in front of complete strangers and within an hour later, have these enthusiastic, passionate people shaking my hand and giving me high fives with sincere passion and gratitude. to read more

Get a more positive attitude and get more done!

  1. Focus on others challenges and issues. It will put some of yours in perspective.

  2. Surround yourself with others who share your positive attitude. Brainstorm about the possibilities and what IS working right now.

  3. Read or listen to something inspirational, funny or motivational as you begin your day. It will set you on a more positive track, in a much better mood.

  4. Have positive conversations in your own mind. Your thinking thoughts all day anyway. Are they encouraging to you or are you giving yourself a constant mental beating?

  5. Your attitude is 100% YOUR responsibility! Accept it. It’s goes with being an adult. It’s not what happens to you, it’s how YOU decide to respond.

  6. Do what you love to do. If you are burnt out in your job, look for another job. Life’s too short and sometimes too long to do something you don’t like.

  7. Do 1 random act of kindness - daily!

Health Barn USA

This is a website that one of my fellow yogis told me about. HealthBarnUSA I don’t want to tell you too much (which is odd for a speaker, I know) but I am so impressed by what Stacey is doing with her New Jersey company. She’s teaching kids how to grow their own gardens, eat better, healthier foods, what organic foods are, composting and a variety of topics related to health. If you ever met Stacey, you could tell immediately that she’s the perfect role model of healthy living.
